Just Driving Along

There we were – just driving along. From the passenger’s seat, I watched – in amazement – the speedometer rise! I took a picture and sent it to a friend saying “We’ll be home quick!” I thought I would get a rise out of her but she knew what happened – the speedometer broke.

How many times in life do we look at something like the speedometer reading and assume it is exactly as it appears? We can be quick to judge without all the facts.

I would never have guessed that a broken speedometer would rise rather than fall. It makes me wonder how many times I’ve “assumed” things.

I guess that’s why the Bible instructs us to be quick to listen and slow to speak. Let’s be quick to listen to what others have to say and slow to assume, judge, correct, or share our insight with others on someone’s situation.

Pet Peeve

Although this falls under one of my pet peeves, it’s really about being inconsiderate – careless and often lazy acts of inconsideration. I’m sure we’ve all been guilty of a few – at least I know I have been. We can train ourselves to be more considerate though.

Instead of thinking about what’s best or easiest for us, we can think about how our words and actions affect others. Whatever is left on the ground can be stepped on and tracked who knows where. Abandoned shopping carts can scratch or even dent cars. And while we’re talking about pet peeves – what about pee on the toilet seat! Half of the readers probably can’t relate to this but it’s good to know what the other half can sometimes experience.

I’m sure many of you can add numerous items to the list but I think we can all agree – inconsideration stinks!

Instead of taking shortcuts, why don’t we all try going the extra mile? Look for ways to make someone else’s life a little easier and perhaps a little more pleasant. The inner satisfaction is well worth the effort.

I would love to hear how you’ve taken the time to make someone else’s life a little bit nicer.

Are You Overloaded?

Have you ever felt as though the burdens of the world slipped down on your shoulders? It’s a crushing feeling. We weren’t built to carry all those burdens – we’re to hand them over to God so we can be free. Why lug them around when God is willing to take them?

Put your trust in Him. Give the load – light or heavy – over to Him. Let Him look after things and trust Him to lead you. He holds the solution to every problem. He has the very best plan. He sees the beginning from the end so He knows what’s around the corner. You can trust Him because He is trustworthy. Are you still hanging on? Don’t wait another moment – give Him your burdens.

Now, let Him refresh you. Let Him strengthen your weary bones and your aching muscles. Let Him refresh your soul and heal your wounds. Let Him calm your fears and give you His peace.

Now rest a moment in His love. Allow His love to fill every void in your heart, your mind, and your life. He will fill you to overflowing with a joy that bubbles up inside of you. He loves you, you know.
